JMIG’s New Editors-in-Chief!
Announcing JMIG’s New Editors-in-Chief!
It is my great honor to announce the appointment of our new, joint Editors-in-Chief of AAGL’s Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology (JMIG), Dr. Jason Abbott and Dr. Gary Frishman.
As the official journal of AAGL, JMIG is an international clinical forum for the exchange and dissemination of ideas, findings, and techniques relevant to gynecologic endoscopy and other minimally invasive procedures. The Journal, which publishes peer-reviewed original research, review articles, clinical opinions, and video articles from the brightest minds in gynecologic surgery, is an authoritative source, informing practicing physicians of the latest, cutting-edge developments in this emerging field.
The Co-Editors-in-Chief (Co-EiC) are responsible for maintaining JMIG’s integrity and high-quality content valuable to the MIGS community. Together they will set the editorial direction and have final authority for the selection of all that is published in JMIG. In addition, the Co-EiC oversee the performance of a diverse Editorial Board and are responsible for selecting topics and soliciting authors who represent the global MIGS community. They also set the standards for acceptance and oversee well-defined peer review procedures to ensure an unbiased and faithfully executed review process.
The JMIG Editor-in-Chief Search Committee recognized Dr. Abbott and Dr. Frishman’s longstanding and effective working relationship and accepted their proposal to share the duties of the EiC position. Both Editors have extensive experience on the JMIG Editorial Board of Directors and have made significant contributions to the success of JMIG. Their synergistic skillsets, sound communication, clarity of vision, and respect for each other’s capacity and capability will ensure that the Journal continues to flourish under their guidance.
Dr. Abbott, has extensive experience with JMIG, serving in varying roles since 2004, including International Editor, Contributing Editor under former EiC, Dr. Stephen Corson, and as an Associate Editor under Dr. Tommaso Falcone. As an Australian, Dr. Abbott is the first non-North American to hold the EiC position. He brings a unique voice representing the AAGL’s international membership and has a passion for global diversity, equitable representation, and inclusion in the authorship of JMIG content. During his time on the Editorial Board of JMIG, he contributed substantially in the area of ethics and was appointed as the Associate Editor of Research Integrity. Dr. Abbott is currently a Clinical Academic in Gynaecology at the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick, New South Wales, Australia and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
Co Editor-in-Chief Dr. Frishman has served on the JMIG Editorial Board, Advisory Board or as a Contributing Editor of JMIG since 2003. In 2013, he advanced to Deputy Editor and has played a key role in the development of JMIG over the last 9 years. Working closely alongside the former EiC, Dr. Tommaso Falcone, Dr. Frishman gained valuable hands-on understanding of the responsibilities of the EiC position. In addition, he contributed to methods that supported growth of the Journal’s impact factor (JIF). This provides assurance that he has a good understanding of how to sustain the Journal’s growth trajectory. Dr. Frishman is also a Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University located in Providence, Rhode Island, United States.
Dr. Abbott and Dr. Frishman’s commitment to high quality research along with their extensive experience with JMIG, make them exceptional candidates for this position.
Congratulations to our new Co-Editors-in-Chief! We look forward to all you will do for JMIG.
