Webinar Topic: Intraop/Postoperative Complications Part 2 (Risk of Vaginal Cuff Dehiscence, Mitigating Risk, and Techniques for Dehiscence Repair)
Presented by: Hye-Chun Hur, MD, MPH, NYU Langone Health Center, New York, NY
Webinar Description: The benefits of minimally invasive hysterectomy are well established, and the rates of conventional laparoscopic and robotic hysterectomy have continued to rise over the past decade. Although many patients benefit from this approach, there is an increased risk of vaginal cuff dehiscence after robotic and laparoscopic hysterectomy compared to an abdominal or vaginal approach. In this discussion we will 1) discuss the risk of cuff dehiscence by mode of hysterectomy, 2) assess other risk factors for dehiscence, 3) review optimal techniques for cuff closure to minimize dehiscence risk, and 4) demonstrate techniques for dehiscence repair.
